December 2010:
The Family Vision Library Has 2020 Vision by John Thrower The Family Vision Library, the only free Christian public lending library in the United States, is moving to a new facility in December 2010. We have been blessed by the Lord to be moving into a 12,430-square-foot facility, which will enable us to expand our library and home school consignment services and to better meet the needs of our patrons and the community. The Family Vision’s mission is to provide tools to build up your family for the glory of God. In keeping with our purpose of forward thinking and vision, the Lord has providentially given us the address of 2020 Parkway Dr., St. Peters. Since our inception in 2005, we have been providing a Christian lending library to assist fathers, mothers and children to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In that time, The Family Vision has grown from 200 patrons in January 2007 to over 2,600 patrons in November 2010.
What sets The Family Vision apart from the public library is that all of our resources are from a biblical worldview. We like to say that we are the safe library. You do not have to worry that you or your children will be presented with resources that are in direct conflict with the Word of God; rather, they will be uplifted to walk in this world with a confident Christian worldview. The Family Vision Board of Directors had been praying for an opportunity to grow this ministry. In early 2010 this building came to our attention. At over 12,000 square feet, it was much larger than we had been praying for! Isn’t that always God’s way? We thought smaller, but God thought bigger. In June 2010, we closed on the building, and we started remodeling in August. The library itself will be over 6,000 square feet. We will have a 2500-square-foot conference room, two smaller classrooms, a small recording studio, a young peoples’ entrepreneur incubator area, public computer access (all with a high-quality content filter program, to keep it family-safe), and our improved and expanded home school consignment area. The conference room will be available for group activities, English Country Dance, smaller graduations and even wedding receptions. This room will seat approximately 300 people with chairs and about 150 with tables and chairs. Our intention with the young people’s entrepreneur incubator area is to provide young people with real-life exposure to operating a small business. We will have four office cubicles available to provide a short term office environment with telephone and computer access. The Family Vision also is looking for folks with accounting, marketing, legal and practical experience to volunteer on an intermittent basis to provide classes, instruction, and seminars for young people on starting and succeeding in business. The body of Christ is equipped for, and can best provide, skills and training to others. If you are interested in volunteering your talents or skills, please contact us. We will provide more details on this project as it gets underway later in 2011. The Family Vision Library has offered many classes in the last three years, including: Introduction to Electricity and Plumbing; How to Develop a Biblical Worldview; Biology 101; Algebra I; Speech and Effective Communications; Children’s Story Hour; Chess and Checkers; Gun Safety; Dr. S.M. Davis’s “Solve Family Problems”; “His Cinderella” with Kathryn Allen; and “How to De-Clutter Your House and Your Life” with Diana Thrower. We are planning to offer many more classes for family enrichment and education in 2011! Check our online events lists for more details.
